FCS2 Upright Microscope Stage Adapter Instructions

Instructions:

The Bioptechs FCS2 System was primarily designed for use on an inverted microscope.  It can also be used on upright microscopes with the addition of an upright adapter.  An FCS2 on an upright microscope will provide high numeric aperture compatibility for all forms of reflected light microscopy, a user customizable flow geometry and temperature control for adherent cells.  When the FCS2 is placed on an upright microscope, the coverslip surface will be facing up and the bottom surface of the optical cavity will be approximately 24mm from the surface of the stage.  This may cause some limitation in transmitted modes that would not occur on an inverted microscope (The stage on an inverted microscope is not positioned between the specimen and condenser).

The upright adapter is made of two components; the first is a round dovetail receiver and the second a flat rectangular plate that is mounted to the translator bar of the upright stage.

Assembly:

1.   Remove the specimen carrier from the X translator bar of the stage and replace it with the rectangular plate using the screws provided.  As there are many variations to stages make sure that the screws do not bottom out in the translator bar.

2.   Place the base of the FCS2 into the dovetail receiver and secure finger tight with the screw as illustrated below (left).

3.   Rotate the knurled knob to position the concentric latch inward.

4.   Invert the round dovetail adapter with FCS2 attached and place it onto the upright adapter plate as illustrated above (right).

5.   When the knurled knob is rotated it will engage and tighten into the dovetail seat of the rectangular plate.
