New Delta T Dish Contact Pattern Provides Improved Thermal Characteristics.
Bioptechs Delta T™ Dishes have always been known
for convenience and superior thermal control than peripherally heated dishes. The Old Delta T Dish contact pattern will be discontinued by January 2013.
Please read below to identify the compatibility of
your hardware.
Bioptechs is always improving its products and this small change will improve
both the uniformity of temperature distribution in the dish and the performance
of the control loop.
Difference in stage adapters, old vs. new. Notice how the stage adapter electrodes align properly with the new busbar design on the new Delta T dish pattern (see left picture below). Older stage adapters were assembled to be compatible with the original parallel busbar dishes. When placing a new Delta T dish into the stage adapter the contacts do not properly make contact with the busbars (see right picture below). The new busbar design requires a wider spacing on the contact points. You will have to recalibrate the setpoint on the controller when you upgrade to the newest design due to the improved thermal characteristics. You will need to follow the original calibration instructions that came with your controller to find a new setpoint that gives you the desired temperature in the dish. Once this setting is identified it will be the same for all new style dishes. You will find that the setpoint will now be much closer to the desired dish temperature. How do I know if I have a new stage adapter circuit board? Look at the edge of the circuit board, and check if your stainless steel "fingers" have a portion of the tab folded over the edge of the circuit board (see image below). If your circuit board looks like the picture below then you have the newest revision and it can accept both the new and old style Delta T dishes. If the tab on the stainless steel "fingers" does not wrap around the edge of the circuit board you need to update to use the new dish design.
Why should I upgrade? If you do not upgrade to the new stage adapter starting January, 2013 you will no longer be able to buy dishes that are compatible with older style stage adapters. Which stage adapters are upgradeable to accept the new dish design? All Series 4 and 5 stage adapters are easily upgradeable. If you are unsure what stage adapter you have, visit our controller identification page. Series 3 stage adapters are replaceable, but they are not able to be upgraded. A discount will be provided to allow for a cost effect upgrade, and you can still use the series 3 controller with a series 5 stage adapter as the stage adapter is backwards compatible. What is the cost to upgrade? Series 4 &5 Delta T Stage Adapter Upgrade Kit without reference thermistor (Part#: 042021-1): $100.00. This upgrade is required if you have multi-colored ribbon cable from your stage adapter to the controller. With this upgrade you only need the circuit board and cable assembly to be replaced and do not need a new reference thermistor. Series 4 & 5 Delta T Stage Adapter Upgrade Kit with reference thermistor (Part#: 042021-2): $150.00. This upgrade is required if you have a gray connector cable from your stage adapter to the controller or a multi-colored ribbon cable with a reference thermistor attached to the stage adapter (not the cable to the controller). You will now have the ability to plug in a reference thermistor directly at the controller instead of onto the stage adapter.
Series 3 Delta T Stage Adapter Upgrade with reference thermistor (see price list for adapters): $450.00. With this upgrade you will send in your old stage adapter and a new new stage adapter will be sent to you.
Note: How do I upgrade? Different ways to go about doing the update: 1) Purchase the stage upgrade kit and have it shipped to your lab for minimal downtime, Bioptechs includes everything to swap out the old stage adapter circuit board including screws and allen driver. 2) Purchase the stage upgrade kit, request an return merchandise authorization number (RMA) from production, and ship your old stage adapter to Bioptechs. We will then install the new circuit board onto the stage adapter for you and certify the stage adapter is working correctly before it is returned. This procedure will take 1 to 2 days turn around time once we receive your stage adapter at our location excluding shipping back to you as time varies due to location. What is included in the upgrade? Included in Upgrade Kit (PN: 042021-1)
(1) Stage Circuit Board and 4 ft Cable Assembly (multi-colored wire) If ordering Upgrade Kit (PN:042021-2)
